Marketing Goals, Strategies & Tactics

Ready to take your marketing to the next level?

One way to do so is by understanding goals, strategies and tactics. Goals are ideal placemarks for an individual or a group of people. They are where you want to be in the future, usually set with a deadline. Often, people make short and long-term goals to help give them a deadline and stay focused. To reach these goals, they will require strategies or an overall, generalized plan of reaching these goals—followed by tactics. Tactics are the day-to-day, fine-tuned action steps one will take to achieve their goal.

So you are ready to make goals, now what? How do you make the most effective goals? The answer is that they must be SMART goals. This stands for “Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and within a Time Frame. Businesses need to make a marketing campaign goal they will be able to reach, though it may take increased efforts. This goal needs to have a specific way to measure success and be performed within a certain deadline. Questions to consider are “Can our company complete this?”,

”When should we reach these numbers?”, “How will we reach this goal?”. When creating a marketing campaign, these questions are essential to ask yourself to help create the best goals possible. If you are doing this for a company, it is necessary to make the best goals achievable as you want to reach the goal but need to expand your comfort zone for overall improvement.

You’ve set SMART goals and are ready to reach them! Next, you need a strategy and tactics. First, you must start with an overall strategy. This could be a generalized plan of what the company wants to perform in marketing while sharing its values, branding, and data. These Strategies are a more broad version of the company's tactics. Tactics must align with the overall strategy to stay on topic and reach your goals. For example, your strategy may be using the internet to reach the world. A tactic would then be using specific channels to reach your targeted audience, such as Twitter, blogs, Youtube ads, and anything related to the internet.

You’ve created successful SMART goals, developed a strategy, and implemented tactics to reach your goal. The final step, ensuring that your SMART goals are met. A great way to do this is using KPI’s or Key Performance Indicators. A SMART goal should have a measurable indicator to tell you if your campaign was successful. For instance, you may use Facebook likes as the KPI. Did your ad get as many likes as you wanted? Or maybe you set our to get 200 Website clicks through an Ad. KPI can be measured on engagement, views, followers, etc., based on different platforms. It is essential to analyze each campaign using KPIs to help shape future ads and administer show success, another reason why making SMART goals is critical.
